Here is a quick tutorial to convert WMA files transfered from the Olympus recorder to MP3 files. This is a necessary step if you are looking to use Audacity as your sound editing tool. We will be using an online solution so you will not have to install any software. The website is www.media-convert.com . Here are the basic steps.
Step 1: First visit www.media-convert.com. Next click on the browse button and locate the WMA file you would like to convert. Make sure the input file format pulldown tab to the right changes to “asf audio (.asf , .wma)”. Also look for the pulldown menu in the bottom left to be “MPEG 1/2 Audio Layer 3 (.mp3)”. Then click OK on the bottom right hand side of the page.
Step 2: After click ok. You will arrive at a page that shows you different bitrates you can convert your file two. If you do not know what this is, I would suggest you leaving it as it is and click the “OK” button to continue.
Step 3: When you see this page, it means the computer is working magic and converting the file to an MP3. Sit tight and wait a moment.
Step 4: Once you’ve reached this page, it means your file has been converted to an MP3 file. Click on the download button to the bottom left to retrieve your newly converted file. Now you can import your file into Audacity.
