Feedback – Lunar New Year Project & Soundslides Proposals Monday, Feb 9 2009

I’m about to update the class blog and came across some queries from some of you:

A reminder: please send  such queries via the class google group – it’s instantaneous and useful if other people are experiencing similar problems.

The queries were:

Q. This is a team project, but then our group is not yet confirmed, so how can we decide the topics, etc. at this stage? shall we just post our own thoughts?

A. Yes. We can finalise groups in class. What’s more important at this stage is planning projects and each individual has to play a role.

Q: What’s the website of “Hong Kong Heritage Topics wiki page ” ?  Shall we post under Spring 2009 ? (and similar)

A. Yes (and you’ve all done so) – this enabled me to check that no one was duplicating stories – some have. No problem. We’ll discuss this in class to ensure no overlap. Meanwhile, now the basics are sorted out, I’ve re-structured the wiki so that all your posts etc can be found here under http://jmsc6091-fall08.wetpaint.com/page/JMSCX+0007.

VERY IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THROUGH THE ASSIGNMENT AGAIN – AND MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETE IT ALL – INCLUDING THE BIT THAT ASKS YOU TO:

Describe which angle(s) you judge may be appropriate to different media treatments.

Are you thinking photos? Audio? Text? Multiple media?

Finally, I’ve provided some feedback to you individually on your Lunar Year Year articles directly to your blogs. Please remember: you DO NOT have to allow such comments to be public. You can choose the function in WordPress that allows you, and only you, to view the comments. In your dashboard, go to Settings – Discussion –  AND CHOOSE  “an administrator must always approve a comment.

Feedback for Assignment 1

Only 13 students completed the assignment on time.

That means the majority of you will receive 0 out of 5 points for this assignment. If you are not one of the 13 and you believe you got your assignment in before the deadline please let Kevin or me know.

I don’t want to single out individuals here for particular praise or brickbats but I will refer to elements that in my view illustrate particularly good, bad or problematic responses. If you are embarrassed by this, remember: what you write is for public consumption. It is wise to develop a think skin. You can only learn through experience. Sometimes you’ll get it right. Other times not. IT IS BETTER TO MAKE YOUR ERRORS AND EXPERIMENT IN CLASS THAN ON THE JOB. (more…)
